hey guys
just curious as to whether it is normal for a manual 5lt efi should stall when cold. just as i was under the impression that the temp switch sends a signal to the comp to tell it to run rich as it is cold, sorta like auto choke.
cheers,
chris
your spot on with the auto choke, but it is not normal for any car to stall at any time. If its doing that it has issues. How long since you done your spark plugs??
not sure, only bought the car about 2-3 weeks ago, i'd say they are due as the car was sitting for couple weeks before it was sold
it only stalls when dead cold and going from speeds 30 plus to a stop when i apply the clutch and once slight warm, it either can pick itself up before it stalls or not stall at all and idle fine, and when hot runs fine and drives fine
couldnt be tps or somethin like that?
Start with the spark plugs. What your saying there sounds like classic syptoms of old spark plugs. Potentially if that dosnt work i would look at sensors and maybe do the leads too if they are looking old. Do an error code check first to see if the ecu is picking up any dud sensors before you go replacin random sensors and costing yourself a small fortune.
But out of them, the coolant temp, oxygen and tps sensors are the ones you would need to look at if it gets that far.
One last possibliity is you have a pin hole leak or loose hose clamp on the back of your fuel rail of fuel line somwhere. But i would think you would get idiling issues all the time not just mainly when cold if you had a small fuel leak.
if its stalling when moving aka turning corners and such, check throttle body![]()
A stuck IAC valve is probably your problem, it's in the throttle body, you can clean the carbon out of the bore where it goes and it should be fixed. That's the main thing that controls idle and anti stalling stuff
ill have to buy some craby cleaner and attack the throttle body, i did give it a slight clean with the little spary i had left (using a small tooth brush) when i put CAI in it about a week ago but was quite clean to begin with, but that doesnt necessarly mean the tps and iac arent clogged with carbon
greatly appreciate the tips guys
cheers
chris
did it do it before you partially cleaned the throttlebody the other week
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

yeah matey, since ive got it
i had the same problem, tried every thing plugs coils injectors dyno, in the end it was a loose and faulty throttle position sensor
will be buying some carby clean 2moro after work and give it/ and sensors a good clean. the car is gettin dyno'd on thursday and one of greenfoam's memcals fitted so ill see if they notice anything.
will let you no how i go, and thanks once again guys for your help greatly apprieciated
cheers
chris
ok, so i took the throttle body completely off, cleaned sensor's and throttle body throughly and partial of in take plenum, and took little bit of slack out of the accelerater cable and replaced gasket with very slight film of loctite sealant
problem still occurs but evey now and then ie. idle dropped out but picked back up without stalling. it did this twice in a half hour drive to work and same on way home.
is it factory manual or has it had a conversion whats the number on the ecu it may have had a conversion and still be using the auto ecu that makes them stall and carry on

not sure, its gettind dyno'd and memcal fitted tomorrow so ill ask the guys at APC and let you know
ecu is for maunaul 5lt efi. will be buyin new iac and tps sensors just for piece of mind
let me know how u go with this because im having a similar issue

new Throttle position sensor and Intake air control valve, extensive throttle body clean. greased throttle return spring, tightend accel cable and new throttle body gasket seem to have done the trick. seems to have tad more response and no stalling or rev drop when cold/warm/hot.
cheers for the help guys
chris
have you checked the base idle speed setting ???
yea it was around 500rpm so i upped it to 750rpm give or take. but from what i can tell the two sensor's fixed it,
