    Default Power Loss

if a car loses power ONLY whilst travelling up an incline, what would be the problem? would the engine be too weak to push it or something else?

how much power loss?, as above slightly light on the info there. A more concise description of whats doin would be good. Could be as simple as you need to go back a gear...

    sorry guys,
in doing highway speeds (100kmh) the trans will slip (i can hear it making a screeching noise, but if i put my foot down more i can feel the TC unlock and it stays in fourth and accelerates better, but to actually acelerate i need to drop it back to third. but it also feels really slow going up hills slowly ( first ro second gear @ 20kmh)

You shouldn't have a screeching noise and you shouldn't be able to feel the TCC unlock unless it's dragging or slipping. Run the codes Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised) .....sounds like your trans is going to give you trouble awfully soon. Also check fluid levels on the trans and colour. Good Luck.

the colour seems normal, smells ok. there are no error codes but a couple of months ago i got one (68, transmission slipping consult specialist), but havnt logged any recently. its been doing it for a while. are the transmissions sensitive to inclines. i changed the fluid in it about 20k km ago.

Only thing that should happen when you come to an incline (at 100kph with a steady throttle) is that the TC will unlock (revs rise slightly) and maybe go back to 3rd...then when on level again it will go to 4th then the TC will lock again. It should never screech unless clutches are slipping (which may have something to do with the code 68). Mine behaves differently when cruise control is on - it will go straight back to 3rd and pickup speed then into 4th then back to 3rd......but like I say, that's on cruise.
I think I've read somewhere that if the TCC does not unlock it creates big problems but I'll do a search on that one.
I've had a look - best is this list of problems:http://www.gmtruckhq.com/?q=node/93

try Lucas oil for transmissions.. stops the slip as long as its not too bad but theres no harm in trying as it only costs 18bux.. ive used it in my VN twice in 2 weeks and its gone from undriveable (slippage) to like minor maybe once a day up a really big hill.. use one bottle on top of the fluid thats in there while the engine is running or two if u think it needs it that bad, then take it for an easy long drive and feel it improve
