hey guys any suggestions would be great.
my car broken down yesterday, i took off from a set of traffic lights, and the battery warning light came on, which is odd because i have a brand new alternator and the battery isnt that old either. so i kept driving and i noticed i was loosing power, so i pulled over, and she wouldnt start again, the weird thing is my speedo all of a sudden was out, i was doing 40 on the speedo but my gps said i was doing 60, and my fuel gauge dropped out, and the interior light was flashing?
so im thinking it has something to do with my ecu and battery but im not sure?
It sounds like the battery went flat, does it wind over at all,or is it just completely dead.I had an alternator die,and had similar stuff happen. When was your alternator installed, you might have got a dud one.
hey my alternator was a brand new one,it was installed about 4-5 months ago, ill chuck another battery in there to see if its my alternator.
what you describe is definately the battery....if you recently had a new alternator and your battery is a bit old they get a bit of a shock with the higher voltage....change the battery no prob....make sure you get a high cca rating on the battery like 500+
definately battery! plates are touching or the link across the top of the plates... also especially new alternator with an old battery always change both...old batterys cant handle the new and improved voltage...over heats the battery and the plates warp!
cheers man, theres no plates or anything ontop of the battery, and the terminals look brand new, ill have to get a decent battery.
can you check the water in it?? the plates line up inside the battery same as the link they're inside the case......if you can check the water look inside *with a torch lol if the waters black its fkt and if you can see the plates spreading its fkt...if its a maintenance free battery you cant look inside! best way to test it is witha multimeter, if the voltage drops below 10 volts when you try starting it battery is caput! hope that helps! oh make sure the terminals are clean and tight! and take the top black layer off the new battrery posts with a wire brush or somewthing similiar! LEADS NOT BLACK! its bright and shiny![]()
oh and if ya can smell rotten eggs around the battery its definately fkt lol
changed the battery with a brand new one, and the light is still on, any one able to help?
Had the same problem with my last vs,ended up being poor earthing.
I put an extra earth lead from the negative terminal to the front of the engine iirc & it solved the problem.
That was after i bought a new alternator & battery lol.
"If you're going through hell, keep going"
iirc = if i recall correctly.

Nah mate,i theres a bolt with an earth lead going to it already its on the drivers side front of the engine on the drivers side of the water pump its a fairly big nut with a star washer on it aswell.

its all good thanks guys, i need a new alternator, so im going to take my one back to the place where i got it.
hey guys in new to this whole forum thing i have a vn v6 i just put a vr motor in it now im havin problems with the battery it keeps dying overnight and when i clutch it the altenator will charge it back up but then it dies again . any ideas on what i can do to stop this
vnv6, it sounds obviously like you have something draining the power. With the key out, you will need to connect a multi-meter between a disconnected battery lead and the terminal. Start by observing voltage on the meter, if there is, then start removing fuses, one at a time and check meter to determin which circuit this drain is on.
Get back to us with what you find.
Are you stop lights permanently on?
Perhaps it's coincidence, the battery has dropped a cell and is old and dead!
