Default vs 5.0 reving too long

just got new cam in. even before it, my ute started to just rev. Basically it drives totally normal, but when you put the foot down to give it a hiding, it holds back and just revs at like 5000rpm for about 20 seconds. I know my trans needs a service.

    Anyone had this before?
    What was the conclusion?
I'm hanging to test the car flat stick

Not sure exactly what you're saying..

If you're taking your foot off the pedal and its still holding at 5000, its not going to be the transmission. Is the throttle cable getting caught or releasing really slowly? Pretty easy to check if you get someone to pump the pedal (car off obviously) while you look at the mechanics of the cable and throttle to see if its working properly.

    OR

If its taking 20 seconds for the trans to pick up the power from the engine and get it to the back wheels, you def. need a new transmission, the clutches and bands will be forked.
    The hall of fame:
