Default VS,Radiator fan only comes on with air-cond?

Electric fan not working-car gets hot...turn air-cond on and fan cuts in and works.

WTF is wrong with this bloody thing? Please help,it's driving me nuts.

VS ecotec with 260 000kms on the clock, she's getting on but it's still cheap to fix...almost,just done the water pump a couple of weeks back-$90.

Check the relays that are housed near the battery - the lo and hi speed fan relays - swap them around and see if it makes a difference. Also possible your coolant sensor is buggered.(not the temp gauge sensor). Lo should come on at about 3/4 gauge reading.

    Thanks mate.

OK,I've swapped around the relays with no luck..

Which one is the coolant sensor? On the thermostat housing?

I have the workshop manual but it has a pic of a VR(old model) engine.

Which ones are Hi or Lo??

The coolant sensor is the brass one on the side which is showing the teflon tape on the thread.
The Hi speed is the one you have pulled out , the low fan is the one right next to it on the right side [ the smaller one]

OK,I've swapped LO speed relay with fuel pump...works fine.Swapped Hi speed relay and works fine.

I've unplugged coolant sensor and fan came on.

Must be the sensor,so I'll swap that over.I can't find the multimeter since the house move.
