The front left wheel on my VS is squeaking when driving, it seems to fade when I apply the breaks, could this be my break pads running low or possibly a wheel bearing?
Might be the brake pads, just take the wheel off and have a look at how much the pads are worn down.
While you're at it, check the bearings. On my VS I had a rumble not a squeak.
I'd go for one of the suspension bushes either badly worn or dry - confirm by pushing down on that side and if it squeaks it will be to do with the suspension. Usually worn brakes will squeal when applied...a bad wheel bearing will squeak whilst driving and be louder when turning to the opposite side. Could also be a shock absorber.
Well it can't be the shock absorber because it's clearly the wheel squeaking as you can hear it when the wheel rotates, for example the squeak is slower when driving slow, faster when driving fast etc. Could the pads be sticking to the rotor? Keep in mind it's only the front left wheel.
If the pads were sticking to the rotor they would overheat plus the steering would pull to that side. Are the wheel nuts tight...and if you have mags are the wheel nuts the correct type.
Like Brett jjj says, take the wheel off and spin the hub...also eyeball the inside of the rim whilst the wheel is off. Also check the pads are not cocked in the calipers although if they were the squeak would go away once the metal touching wore away....however anything is possible.
Other thing to check is the slide pins that the caliper slides on - seems to be a common problem for the grease to dry out and cause them to stick stopping the caliper from completely releasing
Had exactly same symptoms and this solved the issue, just need to use a silicon based grease for brake assembly as normal grease reacts with the rubber seals in the caliper, got mine from REPCO
