Hey
On my way home i noticed the battery light on the dash light up (not very bright). Got home and now car wont start, i think the battery is dead. what does this light indicate? The battery is not even a year old and it started fine when i left to go home.
Any suggestions?

I'd say that it's more likely to be your alternator not the battery. Driving it without it charging the battery properly would have drained the battery. May just need new brushes (is that the name?) put into the alternator or the alternator may be stuffed.
Yep, that light means the alternator is not running/working. And as you were driving the battery drained and now there isn't enough charge for it to turn over. Go get it reconditioned/newie/second hand one.
hmmm thanks, ill get my raa out to have a look (dont pay them for nothing), is an alternator expensive to get new, recond?

Im not 100% sure, but I think a reco'd one is around $150-200? Someone with more of an idea could confirm that..
Could be the alternator regulator, as posted previous, the "bushes" get the RAA or whoever it is to test htem.. i'll put my money on the reg![]()
new alternator brushes are $4.50 and take 5 mins to solder on, easy and cheap fix. Ive just done the ones in my ute.
I also need to do mine as just after posting in this thread I had to run upto the shops and noticed the battery light fading on and off at low revs...doh! Oh well, last time they were done was about 7 years ago!
Id check the wiring where it goes into the back of the alternator,Especially the single wire with the black rubber cover over the lug, the wires have been known to get corroded or overheated and break or get a bad connection there on VS v6 models.Theres some stuff about it here on JC if you do a search on it.
I think its under( VS v6 owners check this out.)Someone else here will probably know exactly what Im talking about, and be able to point you to exactly where it is.It might be worth checking this out first.

Found it.Its actually one of the sticky threads at the top of the main page. This guys car actually stopped, but his wire was broken right through. It might be worth a look though.Could just be a bad connection.
had the RAA look at it this morning, he said the main wire behind the alternator and the insulator has to be replaced so im going to auto elec this arvo. the wire looked entirlely exposed as the rubber on the outside has gone.
