had a problem for agers with a noise coming from my fan belt area and just wondering if its a common problem with the VS... ive tried changing, constant cleaning of the belt and changed some few bearings but still the noise comes back
Could be the water pump.Remove the belt and start the motor, just to make sure its the belt or pulleys doing it.You can(carefully) put a long screwdriver on each pulley centre bolt,or a place where its not spinning and put your ear up to the handle of the screwdriver, you should be able to hear any crook bearings,a buggered bearing will sound noisey and rough compared to a good one.Remember to do the Alternator as well. The bearings go in them every now and then.Just be careful.I dont have to explain what will happen if you get hair, clothing etc caught in the belt or pulleys. You can listen to them the same way with a piece of hose, but it doesnt work as well.
ok i got the new waterpump when i first got the car to get a road worthy on it and ive done the screw driver clean on the belt and in all the grids of the bearings but it only works for a couple of weeks and then slowly its comes back but i have noticed it comes back when i tend to put my foot to the floor but yer running out of options and makes the car sound and look crap which its not
Can you describe the noise - is it groaning ,squeaking, rubbing, or creaking as the type of noise may indicate the source. Also does it go away when the A/C is turned on.
its like a high pitch constant squeaking noise that gets louder as i accelerate not sure with the a/c shall try later on
What do you mean you've done the screwdriver clean on the belt ,and in all the grids?Did you listen to the pulleys like I suggested through the screwdriver,This will tell you straight away if its one of the pulley bearings.

umm i put the screw driver in the middle of the bearings the clean them out which seemed to only temp work...... and havnt done the sound thing yet but will try
Yeah, cleaning them wont help much. Its likely to be a stuffed pulley bearing or alternator bearing or balancer .Try what Ive said,it should help point out whats wrong.

i had this same problem, in my case it was the harmonic balancer.
found out the problem for now..when i bought a new belt it was apparently slightly bigger and i went down to holden and bought a gen belt and so far its quite and i can now hear my sick exhaust..thanks for the idea boys
The AC belt used to squeak all of the time on my VS S111 V8 as the AC idler pulley was exposed to water every time it rained....
