Default VR 5.0L Aircond/ Heater problem?

Hi, any help with this one would be appeciated! Recently purchased a VR Clubsport. The problem is when the airconditioner is turned on the dash down near your left leg heats up to the point where you can hardly touch it! I know this is where the heater core is and from reading notes in the forum I have checked the vaccuum switch, this is not being pushed in by the actuator but even when you push it in manually the problem still exsists. It also pumps hot air at your feet. Any ideas why this could be happening?
The aircond works fine but I can't use it, feels like its' going to catch on fire! This only happens when the aircond. is on, with nothing on it seems ok.

i fixed mine the other day when the motor was warm, once i adjusted the rod from the temp dial to the actuator so it was hitting the vacuum switch it took a good 10-15 mins for the heat from the heater pipes to go away
does it blow hot air at your feet regardless of what the other dial is set on? demist/recirculate etc? might be a loose vacuum line somewhere if thats the case
it might be worth having a look at the top of the actuator and making sure it's still connected to the other actuator above it that works the flap inside the heater box

In addition to the great advice from dirt drifter above:
It may be the actual dial that directs the air to demist, floor etc - they can break internally and this allows the vacuum to escape (can vacuum escape?)...anyway, the switch basically falls apart and feels loose to turn. They can be fixed as it's just a plastic clip inside the vacuum switch that breaks.
It could also be the vacuum line where it goes thru the bulkhead - there is a one way valve there which you can remove to check if vacuum exists.
