hey, just taken my car to work (picton to penrith) on it's first long drive since putting motor back together. I got about 10 mins from work and the oil light on dash came on and stayed on the rest of the way even after i turned car off and on again.
i let the car sit most of today and checked the oil level and it's right on the "add" line on dipstick.. i thought i put a bit more in it than that but i must not have. (only shitty woolworths brand oil to flush out engine before switching back to penrite this weekend)..
so i'm just wondering if oil being slightly low can cause the sensor to pick this up or if i have an oil pressure problem?? maybe a blocked oil filter?? (push rods had a bit of shit on them from being open for a couple weeks). there are no abnormal noises or anything but i don't wanna destroy the crankshaft bearings or something by driving it home!!
just wondering if i should go buy some more oil to make it home, or will this have nothing to do with the dash light coming on..
cheers, josh.
oh it's an old 5L not the vz
check with an oil pressure gauge, or you could just have a faulty sensor that needs replacing like mine did

I got a couple of seals done a little while ago and afterwards the oil light stayed on so i checked the oil pressure sensor thing (ie pulled it off) and it turned out there was a big pocket of air in there, put lil bit more oil in where the sensor belongs and the light went away...

thanks for the ideas, pretty sure the sensor is dodgy as it didn't appear for the whole drive home thankfully.. added more oil though, so see how it goes until weekend.
could have even been air like you said UBER. cheers!
