I had a similar problem until I had it pressure tested, that found the problem straight away.

A bad pressure cap on the radiator can cause this problem - they are around $10 to replace so I'd try one of those as a first option. What happens is that the coolant will normally expand as the engine heats up - the excess coolant flows past the pressure cap to the overflow tank. When the engine cools and the coolant shrinks it will suck the excess coolant back from the overflow tank. If the pressure cap is faulty, air will be sucked into the engine instead of coolant resulting in about 500ml of air in the radiator. Next time the engine heats up this air is forced past the radiator cap to the overflow tank rather violently and forces coolant from the overflow tank. This process is repeated over and over till detected or the engine overheats.
There are other causes naturally but this is a simple one.

    Good explaination hako.

If that fails it could be your intake manifold gasket. Very common problem on commodores. The part that goes around the coolant channels gets sucked inwards causing a leak.
