    Unhappy Engine mounts

Hey, i just got a set of pacemakers hooked up today and was informed that i need new engine mounts, the extractors are in and fitted however the mounts r well and truly stuffed. i was quoted $200 for new ones to be installed including labour. does this sound about right? its a 99 vs ute manual if that makes any difference.

Not a bad price i guess.. do them your self and save some money... if you have a engine crane use it to take the weight of the motor, undo the engine mount bolts.. lift the weight of the motor off the mounts with the crane.. undo engine mount bolts to block.. put new ones in do it back up and your done. Should take less than a hour.

yea that'd b alright if i had a crane, dont have 1 but, yea i mite get it booked in then coz the engine had been hitting the power steering return line and actually worn it back heaps so that wen the guy went to take it off it opened up a hole in it. better there than trraveling around i guess.

if you dont have a engine crane get the ute up on stands then use a trolly jack under the motor to take the weight off the mounts ;-)

just make sure you use a block of wood between the jack head and the engine so you dont damage the sump

For $200 and no hassles I'd get the mechanics to do it as that is a very good price. Getting the left mount out from under the aircon compressor is guaranteed to skin your knuckles and turn the air blue. But if you want to save $$$...........

You wouldn't really use the sump as a jack point would you?

Yeah I believe thats how you do it .... its much the same as sitting the engine on the floor on the sump, you are not trying to lift the car, just take the wieght off the mounts and bolts.

Yea use the sump as a jacking point, but not the centre of it.
Two blocks of wood is a good idea sometimes as it will take out any clearance issues of the subframe.

Your not jacking the car up off the sump lol only supporting the weight of the engine whilst you change the mounts.. it will be fine, what do you think the motor sits on when you have them out the car on the floor...

The Sump, But a jack can exceed the pressure/weight of a free engine sitting on a tyre on the ground.
