I recently blew up my motor in my VS V6 and decided to find a doner car to get a motor out of.
I found and bought the doner car (another VS V6 series 1) and the Check Engine stays on.
I did the diagnostic test (shorted out Jumpers 5 & 6) and turned the ignition on.
It reads 12 constantly and this is the only code it will give me. I've watched it go through 8 cycles and I think this is enough to wait for any new codes...
I looked this up and apparently this is "No RPM detected" which is normal if the motor is turned off. Searching this site reveals that 12 is apparently the all good signal.
Anyway I take the wire out shorting jumpers 5 & 6, then I start the car and the light goes out for a second then comes back on permantly.
Very frustrating... Anyone had this same problem? I'm going to get a friend to check the motor out to see if it's any good or not but I'm kinda worried about sticking this motor into my car now fearing the check engine light will come on and stay on.
I assumed it might be one of the sensors on the blink since there doesn't seem to be anything really wrong with the motor but this should be picked up in a code especially if it causes the light to come on permanently.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
If you see someone with a good quality diagnostic scan tool, they can tell what code or error is setting off the light, even if you cant get the error to flash up with the engine light.
Normally when you fit the donor motor you also fit the donor ECU so they match.
Hey there, thanks for your help... It hit me only just last night.. I was making a serious mistake..
I was connecting the battery then checking the light without turning the car on.
So this morning, common sense caught up to me, and I connected the battery and then started the car... then turned off the car, then shorted jumpers 5/6 and flicked it to "ignition on" and came up with the Code 12 and then it gave me Code 82 which is "1 - 2 Shift Control Solenoid Fault - Auto Transmission Only".
I made another thread about this error code, so I can close this one now and it can become a reference to anyone who might've made the same mistake I did!
