Default Code 82 - 1 - 2 Shift Control Solenoid Fault - Auto Transmission Only

    Hey there,

My VS is coming up with this engine code doing the jumper 5 to 6 thing.

    - Code 82 - 1 - 2 Shift Control Solenoid Fault - Auto Transmission Only

What does this mean exactly? Is there a solonoid that controls the car going from 1st to 2nd or does it mean something else?

Also does this mean my motor might be ok and the code is to do with the Automatic Transmission only?

    Any help appreciated!!

Are you having any problems ??
It could be an old code, clear codes first and read them again after a test drive.

Nah it's a new code alright.... I made a mistake originally of connecting the battery and then checking the codes and only coming up with Code 12. I didn't realise that having the battery disconnected clears the codes... But then I started the car and then checked the codes and then it came up with Code 12 then Code 82. So this is a current problem with the auto....

This particular car is my doner car that I'm going to remove the motor from and put into my good VS which has a blown up motor (blown head gasket, blown oil rings, etc etc).

I just want to check that it's defineately an auto problem because I won't be using this particular auto when I do the transplant.

What happens exactly when the 1-2 Shift Solonoid is busted? I've driven the car and it seems to go from 1st to 2nd ok, and I think it might even go into 3rd ok.

If it's just the solenoid it's an easy fix however sometimes it's the wiring that can cause this problem. Anyways, here is a link to a Yank site all about the 4L60E and what goes wrong and the fixes plus some prices. They refer to the 1/2 solenoid as the "A" shift solenoid I think.

the 1/2 solenoid is just a type of switch in the valve body of the auto trans which controls the gear selection
if you lose the 1/2 solenoid you lose 1st and 4th gear
replace them and if you still have the problem, you'll have a wiring problem either under the pan of the trans, or in the loom to the PCM... also, even check the earth points in the engine bay

    sorry, old post
