Default 97 VS Commodore Cranking but not firing

    Hey Guys,

My mate has a 97 VS Commodore. He was on his way home the other day and all of a sudden the tacho went right up, but the car didn't rev, backfired a bit then just went dead. It is now not firing, but is cranking. We have replaced the DFi Module, Ignition coils, Spark plugs and leads. We are now thinking its the CAS. Its not the fuel pump as its still Priming when turning it onto reads.

Am I on the right track to it being the CAS?

    Thanks

    Mumbo

    Hey Guys,

Does the CAS need to be bolted to the Engine block in order for it to be working properly? Could a drop Valve be a problem?

    Thanks

The CAS has to be bolted in otherwise it will foul with the harmonic balancer and self-destruct. Two bolts normally hold it in. A dropped valve would not cause the tacho to act strange - usually you get a clattery banging sort of noise and basically the engine will stop. It would also make a hell of a racket when being cranked over.

Hi i am having the same problem as mumboman with my 97 VS Commodore, I was driving it the other day and i took off from the lights and the car stared to make a horrible noise like a dropped valve or missing really badly, and also the tacho went up really high and quick but the car didnt take off it slowly gained speed. and then all of a sudden just died. but i cant get it to crank over at all not even manually it just makes a click like the solinoid on the starter motor trying to kick it over. Please help?
