Hi guys..
Hopped into my car after work today and she was running really rough.. similar to if i was low on petrol.. and felt like it would stall
i was reasonably low and i thought i may have run out of petrol.. so i got a ride home and came back to fill her up..
The can i used may have had a little 2 stroke in the bottom before i filled it up, but i didnt think that would be a problem.
After i put 5 litres in the car it was still rough.. so i reved her a bit to try and get some fuel back around the engine (assuming it was low on petrol)
After driving to the servo and filling up she is still running awefull..
Really noisy, bubbly exhaust.
Very little power.. cruising in 4th couldnt keep up with traffic traveling at 60kph.. about 3500rpm seems to be giving me power i would expect about 1200rpm..
A similar thing happened in my dads car and it turned out to be ignition coils...
does it sound like ignition coils? something else? did it bugger it with a little bit of 2 stroke?
any help would be greatly appreciated,
cheers mat
That small amount of 2 stroke wont hurt anything,Id be checking for errors.Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised) Also take the sparkplug leads off the coils ,one at a time, and make sure there is a consistant blue spark coming from each lead terminal. If any dont keep sparking ,then they are more than likely the problem.Have you changed the fuel filter? It could be blocked.
Could be an injector stuck open. Mine did this a while ago. Ran really rough off idle but had plenty of power after about 3000rpm. Stick a fuel system cleaner through it and see if it helps. If it only works for a week the injectors need to be taken out and cleaned properly.
Brett jjj, you appear to be a genius...
I checked the error codes, and only got 12 (no errors)..
But ive just pulled the leads off the coils, and it appears that 2 of the leads arnt producing sparks.. i think i just found my problem!
So you think that now i just need to replace leads? sorry for my ignorance, but i plan to learn
cheers
mat
If the two that are not sparking are from the same coil, then thats what it is, that coil, about $50-$80 each. Its best to replace all 3 at once though.A new set of leads would also be good .Cheers.

Also you can swap the coils around(the cylinder numbers stenciled on them dont matter,They are all the same units)and see if the fault follows the coil .
