Default vs calais write off - to the wreckers or sell privately??

my vs series I calais was recently classed as a write off
some idiot ran up my ass, and its messed up the back of my car, just the boot, bottom panel side panel and interior of my boot, the engine is fine with only 200,000ks on it and runs like a dream, it has full electrics still working tires arnt too bad, leather seats arnt in the greatest condition but not horrible, ive been offered 500$ from the wreckers for it and was wondering if i should take it or try and sell it privately?
    thanks

Its probably worth more in parts. The wreckers where I am would be lucky to give you $100 for it.But they charge that for something like the alternator etc off it.

If you have the room/time/patience, you would be able to make some decent cash by stripping it and selling it part by part...etc Calais parts, like the interior are always well sort after.

yeh if u have the time, start taking the car apart, u will get alot for the interior as the calais interior does look nice, u might get a few grand all up but it depends if people wanna pay for the price u advertise them at

The voice of experience here....if you live in the big smoke and have a few months to spare with car bits lying all round the yard then OK - strip and sell it.
But if you want a quiet Xmas and no hassles waiting for phone calls and people who "promise" to turn up and who never have the money, then grab the $500.

If you haven't got the time, just sell it privately (the complete car) you will get more than $500 for it. I'll say around $600 to $900 depending on the condition. Put it this way, the auction they go for around $500 to $800 series 1 depending on condition and the series 2 go for $600 to $1200 depending on condition. And how many people bid on it too

yeah i agree if you havent got time to strip and sell parts seperately go to the wreckers but you could make so much more money sellin seperately or advertise it as a wreck o ebay and se how much you would get for it

Looks like you need to ask Julie to kindly move this to the for sale bit. Just make a thread if you have the time to strip it. Engine and box for around $400 I've seen, there has to be quite a bit more than $500 if you strip it yourself
