Gday guys,
I've recently picked up some VT twin thermo's to go on my vr v8 auto.
ATM, the car only has one 16" thermo on it, and no shroud, so as you can imagine she's getting pretty toasty, so I'm keen to get the new fans on.
Just wondering if anyones done it, I've had a search, and found nothing on vt thermo's, only the AU ford fans.
I'm mainly looking for pics of how you've set it up, what needs to be cut, and how its been mounted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As for wiring, have you all just got your fans wired, so they both come on at the same time? Or if its done seperately, how have you done it? Bear in mind that the Car originally has a clutch fan, and this current thermo is on 24/7 while the ignition is on, so atm, ecu control isn't an option.
Also a couple of pictures of how they fit to the VT radiator in an auto would be fantastic too.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Whats with fitting the vt radiator??? You would be best to fit the vt themos to the vr radiator. It has been done before i just cant find the site. I have mine wired to the factory ecu plug up next to the top of the radiator where they plug in on the v6's. Orange/blue and somthing is the colour you'll see it there, its fairly prominent. You just need to to get it activated on the memcal to use it but its only a on off setting not high low off. I found the factory wiring overheated on my au thermos, so i used the factory wiring to run a relay. Its the easiest and tidiest way to do it because you can get a factory relay and just mount it under the relay box in the engine bay so its all hidden.
haha Nah I'm not fitting the VT radiator, just the fans. Just curious as to how different the inlet/outlets are on the vt radiator as compared to the VR.
Cheers for the reply mate.

Look out for trouble as the VR radiator is nowhere as efficient as the VT, so your electric fans may end up operating just about all the time, especially in summer. About a year ago, fitted the same 16 inch fan like you did. The first one bunt out within a month, the second one barely survived. I tried touching the electric motor on the thermo even on a mild day, it was roasting as it never got a chance to turn off and cool down. Perhaps if it was mounted in a shroud there was a better chance the radiator could be cooled down enough to allow the thermo to turn off and rest a few minuits.................who knows.
All I can say is make sure there are no air gaps around and between the shroud and radiator to maximise every bit of the airflow thru the coils. From a power perspective, it would be advisable to simply add a 12V relay which may be operated by the ECU or whatever, and wire the high current cables directly between the thermo motors and battery. Don't forget the fuse!
Anyway, I had enough and simply re-installed the old mechanical fan on, as summer was iapproaching and wasn't going thru this crap all over again.
If you do manage to install this, please let us all know how it handles the summer temps with AC on etc and if the fans are always operating etc.
Good luck.
I've got a full alloy radiator. I think its a 3 core? Its 65mm thick anyways. Even with the crappy no shround 16" thermo, it only approaches overheating on a 39 degree day, in traffic, for about an hour. So with the 2 fans and the shroud it should be a sinch.
I'll post up and let everyone know how it goes once i fit them.

Well for anyone interested, i got the twin VT fans on and wired up. Took a bit of modifying to get them on, but they are on and working well.
43 degrees in traffic with the air con cranked, and its only just over half way up the temp gauge.
If i get a chance I'll put some photo's up,
Only problem now is getting the charcoal canister back in, and the OTR CAI.
Any tips guys?
