hey i took me car in to the pits and found it needed a bearing in top the rhs front supension on my VR v6, but i bearing in there never heard of it?, anyone help would be good, do i need a pro to do it? with special tools how much would it cost?.... the mechanic said the shocker is moving around if that elps any one?
cheers
If you are going to try to fix it yourself, then go and buy yourself a gregorys workshop manual first.About $30-$50. Its all step by step, you cant go wrong. With one of these to follow the job is fairly easy.It will pay for itself the first time you use it.You just undo the strut at the bottom, then the same at the top to remove it from the car.You will need a spring compressor,(Not very expensive) to remove the spring etc from the strut.

You need to remove the strut and undo the big nut on top, make sure you use some spring clamps tho, take the top off and the bearing is there just replace it with new one bolt it back together put the strut back in and your done. Should only take about an hour if you know what your doing. As brett said it would be well worth your while buying a manual it will save you from expensive bills in the future aswell as with this problem.
awesome thanks!
if u plan on keeping the car for a long time i would suggest changing the whole strut while ur at it, it is about 15 years old. we just done my dads vs and it rides and handles heaps better. we got struts off ebay at a good price, they take them off the hsv cars when they fit the hsv suspension and sell them cheaper than the stores cos the paint is scratched during removal at hsv.
its a pretty straight forward procedure, i bought the manual off ebay too on cd for about $12 its served me well so far. good luck.
are u serious! they dont make vs' commodores anymore, geez thanx 4 that. i bought mine off ebay from this dude in sunbury a few years ago he had a whole cage full of them from WHEN they were removed.
a cage full of 10 to 15 year old struts.... nice!! lol
VR VS can use all HSV struts up until the VZ as even the HSV VZ still used the VY strut which is basically the VR/VS strut and yes they still sell new pairs on eBay and through a couple of Holden parts seller internet stores.

You will need a coil spring compressor.
Search on ebay for "COIL SPRING COMPRESSOR 2PC AMPRO QUALITY BARGAIN!"
$12.50 posted to you! (got myself a set on order)
UNUSED got to be better than 15 year old struts fitted on todays vs' having done 250-400,000 kms dont ya think. half the price of brand new ones, and how many years do u think most people will be keeping their vs for with 300,000 or so on the clock, so why waste money u dont have too. And like i said before, we fitted them on my old mans vs and it rides like new. so dont knock em cos ive tryed em!
depends how long u been there for, u could get away with alot more 10-15 years ago than u can today.
and ive worked in plenty of places where we are "supposed" to throw out perfectly good stock, but where there is money or gain to be made, it is amazing what can be achieved when the boss isnt looking.
thats one option and then there is the guy that picks up the scrap..... now if u picked up say 100 pairs of struts u could sell for say $200 each, now do the math thats an easy $20,000, now $20000 is alot of motivation.
the point is i dont now how this guy got em , but he did, he sold them cheap to me about 4 or 5 years ago from ebay, not sure if he still sells em, they sat in my shed for 4- 5 years until we fitted em to me old mans car a couple months ago, and all i know is its riding excellent now.
just trying to help and save some people money, this aint the justmercedes website after all.
