Lost reverse gear on vs acclaim 1995. it engages reverse but it just revs

You probably have a broken sunshell, which will also prevent forward motion pretty soon and also bring up the CEL. See this link for an explanation....down near the bottom.

i had this problem in my vr calais, i could go forward, but when i put it in reverse it just revs. I fixed this by reving really hard in reverse and all of a sudden it just jumped in reverse. I know that sounds stupid but it worked and never had a problem again. Obviously i didnt understand the problem.

The VT fits but has a separate bellhousing - this means you need to bend/re-route the exhaust....but it has been done.
If it was the sunshell, the rest of the trans should have failed pretty soon as per my previous post. If it still goes forward then maybe its one of the other faults in that link I posted.

i thought the wiring was also different on the 4L60E in the VT to the VR/VS?

VR/VS wiring is different but not sure about VT. A search should dig up some reliable info as this question has been raised a number of times.

im pretty sure vr and series one vs are the same.. i thought vs series 2 and vt we different..?? this is what i was told when i had to buy a new auto but that was for a 5.0 v8

the Vs v6 is different to a vs v8. The engine in the vs is the v6 ecotec where the vr is more like the vn motor.V8's vr to vs are the same

Theres no such thing as a transmission computer. No reverse = broken sunshell = new auto box.
