i have a vr commodore v8 just wondering when the car goes into limp home mode due to an automatic gearbox failure does it make any alterations to the performance of the motor...besides the things the computer does regarding the auto...
will set off in 3rd gear if you put it in drive but you can select 2nd manually, you will only have 2nd 3rd and reverse, could make it feel like its lost performance.
I'm only guessing here, but I know if sensors like the cam angle sensors fails, the ECU uses a default setting which is basically an emergency limp home mode with reduced performance. So I reckon the answer is yes and no, depending on your definition of LHM.
When Ford first introduced LHM, the story was that you could even drive the car without coolant as the ECU would allow the engine to run but at reduced performance levels to prevent self-destruction. They were dreaming.
if the ECU senses a engine fault it will retard the timing by 10 degrees which will reduce performance quite considerably.
will it retard the timing if its a auto failure that has sent it into limp home mode...
no i dont believe it does but i may be wrong, the auto its self can go in to limp home mode i had this happen once and i did seem to loose a heap of power.. got the auto fixed and all was well again
