    Default VS bonnet

went to replace my manifold yesterday,
    pulled the bonnet release button,
walked around the front of the car and it wasnt popped.
so i tried again and bam, not popped again.

i really need to open up the bonnet - any help?

Have someone push down on the bonnet while you pull the bonnet release lever. This might work. Is there tension when you pull the lever or does it feel like the cable is broken?

Alternatively, you can get under the front with a really, really long screwdriver and unscrew the bonnet pin.

The spring that locks the pin might have bent out of place.

Or, whilst sitting in the drivers seat with the window down, pull the release and with your right fist thump the rear corner of the bonnet. Usually works. Then fix why it didn't open!

I had the same trouble with mine. Too much "tension" from the adjustable rubber stops on the front of the bonnet. Loosen them (screw in clockwise) half a turn and try again. Easy fix.

try greasing to locking pin on the bonnet, if it is dry it doesn't help things.

    I have had this problem.
Got it opened then lubricated it with WD40 (wrong idea) and then it wouldnt shut.
Turned out the spring was too far centred. It needs to be off centre...

I had the Same Problem, with 2 different cars, Have someone sit on the edge of the bonnet, pull and hold the release, then get the person to get off and should pop up. then just give it all a good oil and clean up. no probs since.

CAn someone please post a PICTURE of their Bonnet release mech from UNDER THE HOOD so I can see what I have to do to get mine open, the cable has broken from the inside under hood end. all the other comments in here dont show where to get it open and I can relate to it anyway. An Image or five would be appreciated. I can get the front grill off and I can see inside but dont know how to get to the cable or release mech to crack it. HELLLLPPPPP !!!

Here are 2 pix from under the bonnet - they give you the view of the exact location. You should be able to bend a piece of steel in a sort of dogleg "L" shape to go in thru the grille opening about 10 inches to where the cable attaches the grip it and force towards the battery. Probably also have someone pushing down on bonnet to release pressure.
Watch out for the A/C condenser which is just behind the release.
    Good Luck.

You could always site under the front of the car and remove the pin to pop it. Thats what they did when they stuffed around with my car when we had this trouble. Then we bent the spring back to the correct position.

I thought the bonnet cable was busted in mr vr but it turns out where the lever is in the car, it has a plastic surround see in the pic, the side part pushes out when you pull it and the lever wont pull square and open the bonnet

might have to try and put a cable tie or something around it, is this a common thing with them

    thanks

I needed to do this once or twice - a 300mm trigger bar clamp in 'spread mode' - (reverse the fixed jaw & put it on the other end so working the handle will cause the jaws to push things apart...) hold the handle up with this (against the door sill trim), while you go push the bonnet down.

will cut a bit of 42x19 pine the right size one day...
