Hey everyone!
Today i was doing the usual run around doing some last minute shopping and when i went back to the car to leave the car started as normal, i had time to reverse it out of the car park and just get around the corner when the car turned iteself off like someone had turned the key off.
My first though was that the key had shit itself and somehow kicked the immobilizer in but i believe once the car is running the key can't do that. (Correct me if i am wrong!)
After about 8 mins parked in the busiest road in the shopping center and 200 angry motorists the car started like nothing was wrong. It hasn't done it again since.
My second though was that the ignition module got too hot and stopped sending a spark being a v8 on a hot day i would imagine it gets crazy hot in the engine bay. I got home a pulled the ignition module out and gave it a good clean with electronics cleaner incase there was corrosion on the contacts (there wasn't) and put it all back together. It's running fine like nothing had happened so i dont know what to do from here help me PLEASE!
Ahh okay i didnt know that, i didnt look at the dash unfortunantly sorry![]()
Mine did the exact same thing yesterday, but i didnt have 200 angry motorists lol left it 10 mins then it fired up and drove home fine, got home turned it off and it wouldnt start again, Couldnt hear the fuel pump priming so today ive just fitted a brand new fuel pump and all is good again..
Could you hear your fuel pump priming when your turned your ignition off and back on??
It was mega hot here yesterday dont know if that had anything to do with mine playing up, and mine's a 5.0 V8 ute.
There might be a clue there as you said " and just get around the corner when the car turned iteself off like someone had turned the key off."
That will/can happen in utes when the tank is less than 1/4 full due to the fuel return line inside the tank being dislodged. I hope it is as simple as this. Good Luck.
Ahh sweet well that does make some sense since the tank was under 1/4. It's duel fuel though and i tried to start it on gas and it didnt start either =S
Could you hear your fuel pump priming when your turned your ignition off and back on??
To tell you the honest i couldnt really hear i had a line of cars tooting me but i dont think it was a fuel problem beacuse when i switched it to gas it would have started.
My VR has done this a hand full of times, ive noticed that its always within a few seconds of starting so its never cut out cruising on a road, the engine just turns off and i get a few lights on the dash come up just retsart and its fine, some times i'll have turned the key and waited for the lights on dash to turn off as i always do and then turn the key to start engine and it does nothing (this happens alot) but yeah i just restart and its fine, hopefully both of us can get an answer
