no crank sensor on the 5.0. Sounds like your loosing power somwhere.
I'd still replace the crank angle sensor.
Im pretty sure there's a CAS on the 5L.
Ignition module............................................ ....................................
Similar thing just recently happened with my VR senator. Its had a shitload of little problems, things the mechanics cant always get a hold of.
This has happened recently. I have an lpg/petrol system. Engine died on swapping from lpg to petrol. Restarted after a few cranks, drove 200 odd metres on petrol and it died again. Let it cool down a bit and restarted, swapped to gas,m and got home. Haven't driven it since then.
Also, recently, has been having losing power during acceleration sometimes, almost feels like its misfiring, not getting fuel and it sputters, then picks up. Its depressing really. I wish i knew more about cars, but atm, i have to rely on the mechanic, and thats just slow. They cant seem to get it right, and when i get it back, something else is wrong with the thing.
If anyone has anymore suggestions for this problem, would be appreciated.
Hey mate i replaced my ignition module and the car worked fine for a week or so and now i am having the exact same problem as you. I found if i tryed to start the car right after it gives me a code 12 it will start. The auto elecs think its the BCM but it's still there getting worked on so ill keep you posted
Same issue on VS V6 auto 6/96. Wait for 5 mins & starts again.
Changed computer over was good for a while. Now back to square one. Am thinking fuel filter, crank angle sensor.
Will check vehicle immobilizer light next time it cuts out. This needs to go out when igition on. Also listen to hear fuel pump start up at igition on.
What's the cost to have crank angle sensor replaced by mech ?
Kind Rgds
Dave
The V8 does not have a crank angle sensor. It has a hall effect sensor in the distributor instead.
Hey mate got my car back all running, it was the Hall Effect Sensor in the Dizzy, it's the 5.0L's version of a crank angle sensor had all the same problems you did and this fixed it, this issue is getting more and more common with the 5.0L's around now, gl mate
i have a 95 v6 vs commodore, i recently had 6 new spark plugs installed. ive done 205,000kms in the beast. was running fine.
the other morning on the way to drop the girl off at tafe and it just stopped dead, died steering lock the works. kicked it over nothing.
got a mate who is a diesel mech, checked fuel lines pumps etc couldnt work it out. that afternoon it kicked over fine and drove home, next morning was dead as a doornail. it kicks over but wont fire up.
ive done the error code check came back with code 12, meaning all good. i watched it for 15 mins to make sure.
ive tried the old trick of holding the unlock doors button and trying to start it, it worked but she died straight away.
some more info on the crank sensor would be appreciated.
cheers, paco
