Hi Guys,
I have a VR that has a blocked Cat Converter. In my garage I have an old VP that I use for spares, which still has its cat. Both are 6 cyl.
Are there any differences between the factry fitted cat on a VP compared to a VR, pipes same diameter, and can I use the VP cat on the VR?
Thanks,
Smithy
v6 or v8 dont matter or vn,vp,vr,vs all the same. will fit
VL-VR V6 and V8 are all the same and VL-VS V8 are all the same, so yes, it will fit.
abba fan, quick question, i have extractors and 2,5inch catback with the original cat and y-piece on a VSII ecotec.
is the original cat and y-piece a major restriction.. what would the kw difference be if i replaced em.
engine's stock except for enclosed pod cai
Thanks guys,
Any tips for budging the bolts on the bast**d, they are fused tight.

Any ideas where I can get it in the Penrith area, Super Crap Auto just sent me to their Mt Druitt store saying they had stock, took my first bus ride in years and got there and Super crap at Mt Druitt don't stock it.
Trying to get it fixed so I can head to Canberra.

quick question...
how did you know its blocked?
It was running like a dog really not want to start and lacking power up hills, rough idling, and I was about to take it to my local mechanic to get checked when harmonic balancer let go, I had a mechanic come and replace that because I wasnt confident in changing it myself.
When we started it up the car after changing the balancer she was idling like usual, rough, he took it for a drive and it seemed worse than before, when he pulled up it sounded like my father in laws old dodge truck.
He then used a gauge, I think he took the O2 sensor out and inserted it there. It measures backpressure and the VR's was high. He diagnosed a blocked cat and then quoted me $380 to replace it.

I used my foot to undo the bolts on the cat on my VR
First I used WD-40 then I put a ring spanner on the bolts then pushed hard until I heard a crack (On passenger side)
grind or drill the bolts out if all else fails
G'day All,
Finally got the new cat converter on, now the car wont idle when started, runs as rough as guts and stalls if I drop the revs......any ideas?
Thanks

Could be a vacuum hose or the intake manifold. Check the vacuum canister under the front guard and the lines going to it, check the lines off the manifold and throttle body.
Did you do any sort of arc (electric) welding on the exhaust?
Jeez,I cant see how just bolting on a catalytic converter would cause the engine to do that.Unless the exhaust or new cat was blocked ,in which case it shouldnt run at all,not just stall at idle.Maybe check for error codes or reset the ecu(disconnect the battery for 5 min).It has got me stuffed why this would happen just from fixing the exhaust.Let us know how you go with it.
Was told to change the leads and plugs, but there not that old? Will try resetting ecu and check vacuum.
Thanks

If it were the leads and plugs it would have been doing it before you fixed the exhaust.I just cant think of what else would cause that.Very strange.Maybe the problem you had before wasn't a blocked cat, maybe it was something else.I would be checking for any error codes, see if everything is ok.Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
