Default more brake dust on rear rims...

i've been noticing considerably more brake dust on my rear rims (chromies) than the fronts on my vs series 3 ute and i'm thinking perhaps my handbrake is overadjusted and the brakes are dragging...

    is this possible?

could help explain the poor fuel economy i've had since buying it.

to the rear brakes self adjust ? i'm guessing they would but the handbrake would be fixed position..

any other thoughts on it? there's clearly twice as much black dust covering the rear wheels after a couple weeks and at first i thought it must just be pads but i have my suspicions..

what's the procedure for correct handbrake adjustment. mine is a 3 seater ute by the way. always feels like there's plenty of pressure the second you pull the handbrake up.

first thought that comes to mind is that you have dusty pads on the rear and low-dust pads on the front.

    that's what i figured.

mayby if i jack up the rear off the ground and try to turn the wheels with it in neutral and park brake off that should tell me if brakes are clamping too tightly.

Ive found the cheaper pads seem to leave heaps of dust, and squeal badly. There might be different brands fitted to yours between the front and rear.

the handbrake adjustment bolt is under the car under the handbrake it's a single nut to pull or loosen the wires to the rear wheels. You'll have to check the wire with the handbrake off and check that it's not to tight, of coarse make sure you have the wheels clamped and in gear. How much play do you have in your handbrake, most sit about half way up when engaged. If you after new brake pads checkout gslrallysport in the forums here there an Aussie made pad that wipe the top end competition off the market and have no brake dust.

our sponsor sells QFM HPX pads which apparantely provide very good performance with low dust as well. i can't comment on how much dust they release as i don't have a set (yet), but you can have a look here:

Yep, that's them! The HPX is a Bendix Ultimate in terms of performance, but very low dust and rotor wear. Also in VT-VZ front, they come a police spec 'full face' pad as standard. $79 per set front or rear.
