VR Buick noises

Hi all. I have a 1994 VR wagon that I just got that needs some fixing up. There is a loud werrrr-ing noise coming from it, but I cannot locate where it’s coming from. I am told that most Buick motors werrrr, but my friends VR is a lot quieter. Any help in guiding me towards the culprit would be much appreciated.

PS: The power steering pump has just been replaced.

Tensioner may be on its way out.

Take the serpentine (drive) belt off and start the engine(its ok to do this for a couple of minutes) and see if the noise goes away.If the noise goes when the belt is off, just spin each pulley by hand and feel for any roughness or noisy dry sounding bearings to find out which one is stuffed.

And if the advice from Brett does not give the answer, it may be the balance shaft bearings especially if the car has done over 300,000km.
