Im not 100% sure how it actually works but I think it means theres an error logged in the ABS system and you might need to see someone with a diagnostic scanner to get it turned off and find what error has been logged.I've read somewhere on JC that you can flash the abs error codes on a vr with the abs light, just like you can with the ECU and engine light. Not sure about this though.Someone here will know for sure.Maybe the light will go out by itself once the error has been fixed.

    First read this....
    ABS Error Codes
then find out what error codes you have.
With the ABS off light... does it activate as soon as you start the car or can you drive it for a while and then it'll activate at like 80km/hr etc??
Let us know when you have a bit more information and we'll see what we can do to help

I seem to remember reading some where that you can only read the ABS codes on the VS which has the newer design Bosch ABS unit. VR has the earlier design. But I could be wrong.

I though that it was the other way around,Can be read on VR but not on VS ,but I'm not 100% sure either.Ive read something about it before here on JC, but I cant find it now.Maybe just try it and see if it works or not.Id try it on my VS but I have no ABS.Someone here would own a VR/VS with abs that has tried this and knows if it works.

my wifes vs berlina had the ABS OFF light come on a few weeks ago, after checking fuseable link and other fuses and relays i unclipped the loom connector from the ABS unit [ under bonnet ] near engine. i cleaned the connector pins and where they push in . their was a bit of gunk which had been stuck between connector and abs unit. after i cleaned it i took the engine fuse out for afew minutes to reset ECU , since then the ABS OFF light hasnt come on yet !!!.....maybe worth a try.......cheers.
