Hey Everyone.
I know this has been talked about alot, but i think the VR idle problem is different.
The VR first did have the unstable idle, I replaced the IAC and cleaned up the throttle body, and now sits nice when idling. Problem i have is, when the car is cold, going from reverse to drive, revs stay fine. when the car is hot, going from Reverse to drive, it almost stalls and revs go up and down until i rev it a little, i am guessing its a another sensor somewhere giving faulty readings. Is there something i can try to test the senors ?
Cheers![]()
Try checking for any errors that may be logged. If any sensors etc are faulty, they usually log an error, which can be checked in the way shown by following the link here.Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)I just noticed your ride,is it a VR or a VX you are talking about? The errors can be checked the same way on the VX as they can on the VR/VS
The way it flashes any error codes is a bit different though.

both my last cars have done that i wouldnt worry![]()
I've got a VS V6 auto and it doesn't do anything like that hot or cold.It goes into gear without hardly moving the engine revs at all.Id start by doing the error check I mentioned before.
Does it do it more/worse when the steering is turned to full lock?
Checked the codes, came up 12 so all good. Was hoping would say some sensor but never that simple![]()
Id try cleaning the IAC valve (Idle Air Control). This valve controls the idle speed when selecting drive or reverse gears, or when the air conditioner is turned on when the engine is idling, or when the power steering puts a load on the engine while idling. Its on the throttle body near the butterfly flap, and has 2 screws .Remove them and it will pull out of its hole. Also remove the large pipe that goes from the air box to the throttle body. Then get some carby and throttle body cleaner and give it a good spraying all through the IAC valve passages and around the butterfly flap area etc. Also clean the IAC valve plunger,it will most likely be all blackened and covered with crap.Just be careful not to pull out or push in the IAC valve plunger or "pintle".This is set at a certain distance and should not be moved. If it does get moved it can be set again ,to do this you have to measure 28mm from a certain place on the IAC valve body to the end of the plunger.Ive seen quite a few idle and stalling problems fixed by cleaning or renewing the IAC valve.

Thats right,It shouldn't effect the idle until a load is put on the engine like selecting a gear .It should compensate for the extra load and idle up the engine slightly when selecting forward or reverse gears etc.

I wonder if the temperature senser would cause this if it was stuffed. Not the single wire one,its for the temp gauge, but the plastic plug one near it,it's for the ecu.Maybe take it out and clean it.Its gotta be worth a try, being a fault that only happens when up at running temp.

My VS did exactly the same thing, 4 months later...
well, the new auto doesnt do it..
