G'day guys,
Just wanting to get some idea's, thoughts and feedback about on car injector cleaning, pro's con's that kinda thing?
Basically I want or rather need new injectors now at the risk of needing to take em out for a sonic clean I figure that an on car injector clean would be just as effective?
Although because of the chemical there using I am a little worried that this could stuff my cat converter or even my oxy sensors...
No nonsense replies please!![]()
sonic clean would be far more effective than chemicals that you put in your fuel tank.
Think about it this way, you could pour a detergent on your dirty dishes and hope it gets the food off them or you could actually scrub them and get the crap off, same deal here, the sonic vibrations run through the injector are going to clean them out far more than putting a cleaner in the fuel and have it just run through the injectors on the way to the combustion chamber.
A professional ( in the workshop ... not fuel additives) on-car injection clean is almost as good as off car sonic clean but with the sonic clean they usually replace the filters in the injector so that's best but also more costly.
can i ask a stupid question? Whats a Sonic Clean?
Ultrasonic clean - using ultrasonic sound waves to remove the dirt
Other option is you can pick up some reco'd injectors pretty cheap on EBAY these days too most come with some warranty too
Most places only charge around $15 to $20 bucks each, can be cheaper if you take them out yourself. The benifit is they put new filters and grommets in them.
Every 50,000km i take mine out and take them to a injector workshop, they pull them apart, ultrasonicly clean them, put new filters and pintle caps on, new seals, then fully test them to make sure the spray pattern and flow are correct, then there good as new for another 50,000k
Only costs me about $80 to do all 6. Personally i would only do on car cleaning to clean the fuel pipes from one end to the other, but really they would be pretty clean if your fuel filter is working correctly.
I have 2 sets so i swap them over then get the other set clean for next time.
Ohh no i think you guys misunderstand, I am not putting additives though my fuel system, What i had researched into was an on car clean meaning the mechanic removes the inlet fuel lines from off your fuel rail, plugs up a pump and fuel cleaner mix that way, so in effect will clean everything through out the engine, not anything like those pi$$ farting injector cleaner additives...
The main purpose for this is basically a temp resolve for the next month or so until i have the time to dismantle my engine to get at the injectors and get them sonicly cleaned.
Trying to do a search for what i have planned on the internet dosn't come back with much info but check out lubemobiles idea of an on car injector clean. it's basically the same thing.
i dont see the point, it would be just as much mucking around pulling the fuel lines off then pulling the injectors out.
To remove the injectors just pull the pelium cover off alan bolts and undo the bolts holding the chamber in the middle, take the vacumm hose off near the air intake pipe then you can lift the camber up enough to remove the injectors.
Make sure you pull the fuel pump fuse and run the car till it stops which will use the fuel in the rail before pulling it apart.
While im doing this i put rags under the chamber then get some carby cleaner and give it all a good clean, take your tps and iac off and give the intake tubes a good clean to.
I have seen the injector cleaner you put in your fuel tank fix up rough/bad idles lots of times,it obviously does something.Otherwise there would be no difference at all.
Two or three tanks of Premium Unleaded will go some way to cleaning them. It's a good idea to regularly use Premium Ul - perhaps every 3rd or fourth fill. Keeps the fuel system a lot cleaner and you'd be amazed at just how much cleaner the engine oil stays.
I only use 98 octane unleaded, but I still run a bottle of injector cleaner through it every couple of months.Benboy is right about the engine oil being cleaner,I've noticed that too.
Yeah I use premium in every fill, so it's not usually an issue...
I have in the past used additives but they don't usually make a huge difference...
So hence why this sounds like a far better alternative...
