Yo everyone,
I've got a 5.0L vs ute on gas and was just wondering . . When i start the car the cooling fan is always on. In all the previous other cars ive had the fan will come one when it heats up. half way etc etc. The fan is annoying it makes the car sound like a truck, is there any way of making it come on like a normaly car, cheers Jordz
usually comes on if its in limp home mode, unless its got a thermo fan thats been wired up badly, like mine was when i got my car

Are you talking about the clutch fan on the water pump??? If it's always on there's a good chance the clutch has packed it in.
When the engine is cold, see if you can freely spin the fan with your hand (of course make sure the engine is off so you don't loose fingers). If it feels like it's stiff, then you probably need a new clutch.
If you leave your A/C on, the electric fan will always be on.
Nah its the fan to cool the car the main fan thing behind the radiator. Limp home mode?
That's the clutch fan... check it when the engine is cold as I mentioned earlier... they're designed so that as the engine heats up the oil inside the clutch expands and makes it spin with the engine (hence it sounding like a truck), if it doesn't spin freely when it's cold the clutch is gone.
Sweet as mate, ill check it out in the morning, if it is F*#$!@ is it a mish to fix it?
it's pretty easy... 4 bolts hold the clutch onto the waterpump pulley... undo those, lift the fan out, then another 4 bolts on the other side to release the clutch from the fan, replace the clutch (round ridged thing), bolt fan to clutch, bolt that assembly back onto the waterpump - should take like 15 mins.
Get yourself some locktite and put a drop on all the bolts when you do them back up... you don't want those bolts to come undone and send the fan thru your radiator or into the bonnet![]()
here's a bit of a diagram that might help ya out
I think you have to remove the fan shroud aswell.. two screws above radiator, then tilt it back and lift it off the bottom of the radiator mount, you should then have access to the front of the fan to undo the bolts.
haha aweome thanks for the help, i got what i was looking for handed to me on a silver platter, thanks again
