hey guys,
Walked out to car this morning and noticed a foul green slimy colour under my vr. looks like rotten eggs and bird crap mixed together. Thought nothing of it until i pulled into the gf s and noticed the exact same thing. its leaking from the front of the car and i got no idea. any help will be appreciated. cheers
Get underneath the front of the car and check the radiator for green crap on the outside. Mine did a similar thing (green goo) and it was 1 of 3 leaks pushing out coolant and transmission fluid (the other 2 leaks were only coolant).
I ended up replacing the whole radiator... and hoses... and water pump... and heater tap.. lol
just checked now and it seems ok only where the bottom radiator hose leaves the motor. my other idea (just throwin it out there because its only done it 2x over past 2 days and its been driven at least 10x) maybe the air con???
yea runs pretty sweet just needs a service
Have a look in relation to where the dripping is to see where the fluid is coming from. That way you should be able to pinpoint the leak.
i think its ac becaus it only happened the other day and i have not ran it for past 2 days wit ac on and not doing anything(and its in that general area 2). i am probably wrong but i never knew an ac overflow could look like that
You could have a rusted out/leaking heater core... that would explain the skanky green crap on the ground.
but would it leak outside? i know that is buggered and its pretty deer to fix.
yeah the coolant would leak out of the heater core and into the drain tray which drips out next to the transmission. You can bypass the heater core if you don't ever use the heater. To fix it means having to pull the entire dash out... it's a big job... costs average around $800 to replace it.
bypass u say? the cold dontt mind me and i never use it
i jusy want my ac because its hot in SA
yeah... basically you disconnect the hoses that goes in and out of the firewall to the heater core... and join them together. Don't block them off or you'll have overheating problems... get some pipe and hose and clamps and bypass 'em
You might want to make sure it's the heater core first though.. just in case!
ok cheers dude this helps alot. im guessin it is because a couple o months ago i got coolant on my leg while driving along and came from behind dash. can i still use air con though?
That sounds like it's the problem then if you're getting it on your leg.
Won't affect the cooling at all. The heater core just lets hot coolant run thru to blow warm air out.
cheers man u have saved my stresses now as i dont have a very high income. cheers
