Hey everyone,
I've got 2 problems with my vs that i have no clue about they may be linked.
The 1st one is my steering wheel vibrates when i am driving, its not my wheels out of balance ive just had new tyres put on and they got balanced when i did that, and it only seems to vibrate when i am accelerating. . .
The 2nd problem is when i take off hard there is a bang in the engine bay like the motor wants to jump out, could this be a shitty engine mount? i recall a mechanic telling me one was getting worn a while ago. Could these 2 probs be linked, thanks in advance Jordz
Engine mounts will not make a clunk sound when you accelerate, generally a sign of stuffed mounts would be a very bad rattle through the car at idle, and when in gear...
secondly your vibrating steering could be a few different things, steering rack has shot through, control arms stuffed, bushes stuffed, castor bushes stuffed, basically anything in the front end could be making it vibrate... so get it checked out at pedders...
Ohh and the bang your probably hearing is your engine and or drive train getting damaged more and more when you take off hard...
so i would suggest before continually driving it around like you stole it, get it checked out before something snaps!
good luck
id say for your 2 problem would be the engine mounts cause my ute did that when my engine mounts were broken and only just got them fixed now no clunk when taking off
If You Want More Inches - Stroke It!!!
I'd go with engine mounts as well - they may be so shot they are allowing the engine to foul the steering linkages. Do them first and see if the vibration goes away.
Yeah ,most likely the engine mounts, when mine were stuffed, the engine would move around and clunk badly when accelerating. Also check the gearbox mount, its most likely in the same condition as the engine mounts. As for the steering, all you can do is get under the front and get someone to slightly turn the steering wheel left to right while you check the ball joints etc for play or movement.Check the bushes for distortion, wear or cracking and also jack up the front and try to pull the wheels in and out(sideways)to check the wheel bearings for excessive side play. Also check the rack ends (tie rod ends)for movement or play.
Yeah im not too concerned about the vibration as i am the clunking, but ill get on the engine mount and see how i go, thanks for the help everyone
