Hey,
My doors are feeling pretty old when i open and close them, they squeak, and just dont feel like they did when new.
What can i do about this?
Lanolin spray is better as it leaves a residue which will last longer than WD40 although I usually saturate the hinge with engine oil in an oil can and then wipe down a day later...messy but it works. Main culprit for squeaks is the stay that is supposed to hold the door open - when worn they are just about impossible to quiten.
how about new hinges?
or a hinge repair kit?, bot of which i cant seem to find for a vs..
The hinge is welded in but you can replace the pins. Here is the "how-to":
How to remove the hinge pins in a VN Commodore using a pin removal tool.
yeah replace the hinge pins and grease them up, that will new'en them up a bit![]()
If you wish to service the door stay properly - it's door trim off so you can put a good coat of grease into the rollers. Open and close a few times and put some more into it. Repeat until the thing shuts up. I have a rouge door (passengers side front on the wagon) every 6 months without fail.
If you just stick some on a screw driver and slop it on from the little hole opening it lasts for a little while before back to squeak again.

From their appearance they are not specifically hinge pins but are used for many other purposes like locking pulleys on shaft etc (roll pins?).....so I'd measure the outside diameter and go to a bearing shop and explain your problem as I'd reckon they would carry them. Other option is to knock some out of a wreck - from the back doors!.
Edit...just did a Google and looks like they are called "roll pins" and should be available from bearing shops. However, maybe they are not ordinary roll pins (although they appear identical) - maybe someone can confirm.
They are jst ordinary old roll pins. Any mechanical supplier will have them. All you may have to do is chop them to legnth if they are not a standard length.
Coat the hinges in grease and wipe em down about a day later, works pretty good
Doesnt the manufacture handy book say to use lithium grease? $10 for a can at Holdens for genuine stuff and my doors open with ease with no squeeks.
Gease would be better than crc or wd. Used to be wax loooong time ago........
