just bought a 1995 VS Wagon.
Steering feels a bit floaty.
What do i check for to fix this? Any common problems with this? Any advise appreciated.

Hey mate i've noticed when i put big rims and wheels on my vs it gets floaty, why type of shoes has your car got?
just running 15" , that shouldnt cause the problem surely??
theyre actually statesman rims, 15 inch tyres ???
have checked the air pressure and its all even
No 15's shouldnt cause this problem, are the tyres all ok? same tread pattern etc etc?
Sway bar links/bushes?
If the car has had next to no attention in the suspension area then i can almost gauntee the shocks are possibly the originals still, the springs are probably starting to become soggy and all the old rubber bushes throughout the under carriage are probably rooted. Being a wagon i would be inclined to start at the rear as its cheap and easy to get you started and you will learn a few things(if you need to). Plus being a wagon, if the rear is all saggy then it will add to that floating feeling also
Grab some new springs and some new shockies to start and a set of upper trailing arms with hardend rubber bushes
How to change rear shocks (wagon)
The springs you can do at the same time as the shocks cause its all in the same area. Drop the rear bolt of the lower control arm(with a jack under it ofcourse) leaving the shock still attached and you should simply be ably to grab the spring and pull it out, then you can simply undo the top and bottom nut holding the shock in and swap that out too. Bolt it all back up and you have just done your rear springs and shocks...easy.
Have a look at your upper trailing arms in closer to the diff a bit, and see if the rubbers are shagged. If so it will not take you long to swap them out for some new ones(click my wagon thread for pics of my old ones). Just do the one side at a time and you'll be fine.
Now after that you can move upfront with a better understanding of things and you can see what needs doing up there. More than likely a new set of springs and shocks will do.
