From what I have been told and I maybe wrong but if you get a crossmember / K FRAME from a VT that has the GEN3 in it they will bolt straight in..

Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say, 'My name is Ray, and I am an alcoholic'?

you will need a conversion kit, its not a bolt in job. castlemaine rod shop do a kit contact them.

There's a guy on Street Commodores Forum who put an LS1 into his VS with considerable success.

From my own knowledge putting a GEN 3 into a VS is a pretty costly and fiddly job, it isn't a straight bolt in job. Be prepared to stretch your bank account a bit mate...it's going to get a workout putting in an LS1.

    good luck with it though

From what I have read over at SC and here, if you want the job done properly and you are paying for the work to be done, budget around $15k for a car thats free of problems after the install.

Agreed, and I could easily get a series 2 VT with a gen 3 already for way less than 15k.

a friend of mine has got a gen 3 in his VR senator and it cost him around $10,000 to do.
Better off just buying a VT II with gen3 in it already.

^^ that's what i said, but a vn/vp/vr/vs with a ls1 is waaaaaaaaaaaay cooler than a vt/vx . $10,000 would be about right if you know what you are doing and can do it all yourself and you get a motor for a good price (ls1s are getting very cheap now as well). but if you need help, probably more.

Yeah they are absolute weapons in the lighter commodores when edited and cammed.

I would probably choose an LSX conversion over a holden 355 stroker.

Hmmm...you reckon? Why's that? I'd choose a 355 in a VR/VS over an LS1 conversion. I'd buy a VX or VY with an LS1 in it...cheaper and better in my opinion.

Might cost a bit, but at least you'd be different.
As stated, Castlemaine rod shop is the place to call for these jobs, i'd start there.

Dunno, its different I'd guess, and the LS1 is probably lighter than the cast iron Holden 355, and also the LSX is easier to get power out of it.

But yeah, I'd probably just buy a VY and get the tune, heads and cam done.

Around 10-12k depending on what you replace/have already done to the car and how much you pay for the motor. Not a hugely difficult task, almost finished doing one into a VR acclaim V6 hehe exhaust shall be interesting..

355s sound cool, but a cammed ls1 would munch a 355 and be more suitable for a daily driven car with reasonable economy. as masterofreality said, easier to get the power. and for roughly the same price... i'd pick ls1.

Near side wont cause you any troubles.. but the drivers side was a pig when we did my mates gen3 in to his VR the steering knuckle was right in the way and was hitting the extractor, that was custom made by castlemaine rod shop.. ended up taking the car to them to sort out a few problems with clearance etc.
