Default VS Blower Fan Motor not working

    Hi,

We were driving our VS (6 cyl, no climate control) the other day and the interior fan stoped working. It does not work at all, on any speed. The green aircon light on the a/c button does illuminate and the compressor kicks in if the fan is put in either 1,2,3 or 4 speed but the fan does not work.

I know there are fusable links and relays and switches and new fan motors to consider, but I'm not sure in what order to troubleshoot and exactly how to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Rudi

There is a how to in the How to section if you want to have a look,
Alternativley it's probably the fuse which is situation under the plastic junk under your wind screen when you pop the bonnet. there's a little squre looking unit roughly in the middle you un screw and replace with an aftermarket one, as holden i don't think stock them any more, and if they do, they'd be as expensive as fark!
    Good luck

Check the "ignition" relay in the relay block under the bonnet - swap it with another from the relay block to test.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had replaced the 'Fan Speed Resistor' once before. I was told at the time that the replacement (a totally different design. No cage) would not break like the old ones did. Never the less, I have had a look, and the unit looks fine.

I also thought that if it was the 'Fan Speed Resistor', the fan would work on number 4 (High) regardless, because number 4 bypasses the resistor straight to the relay. All relays and fuses check out ok as well. I hope someone knows something else to check before considering the fan motor $$$$!

Thanks for the suggestion. I did as you suggested and swapped around the ignition relay with others, and all relays appear to working fine. I did the same with the fusable links also and they seem fine.

Are there any other considerations? It sort of sounds likes its pointing to the actual fan motor, unfortunately (big job)...

you need to check through the circuit from battery to motor each part and see if these is voltage. Also check if the actual blower motor is not siezed. Can it be unplgged easily and the plug tested for 12V and/or 12V be applied directly from the battery to the + motor terminal (ground as well to the groind terminal if need be)?

I think if you remove the glovebox you can access the wires to the fan motor and see if power is getting there.

Thanks for that. It turns out that there is power to the fan motor, so it looks like a big job ahead. Need that aircon!!

    Cheers

Late post is late, If the fan only works on 3 / 4 it will be the resistor under the plastic parts

I have a mate who is having an issue with his calais where the fan wont work at all and the blower relay is fine & so is the resistor (we tried a working 1)

Just curious as to how you fixed yours ? Would sort of like to hope so after 2 years ha,

    Cheers mate
