Doesnt do anything except a bit of sound deadening, but it really doesnt quiet it by much at all.

I dont have any left on my bonnet, and have no troubles.

I thought it was more of a heat absorber so it doesnt affect the paint work?

it's just unnecessary weight if the hood needs protection from heat, what about the paint inside the bay? it's more of a noise thing really. the early girl commodores also had it on the firewall for the SLE models

I facepalmed when I came back to this thread and found that people think it affects the paint.... really I did.

christ, even leaving your car in the sun will heat the bonnet up more than the engine ever could..

Actually It insulates for those cold winter mornings and also acts as a sound barrier...Don't quote me on that one though lol.

Mine caught on fire multiple times because of an oil leak so I ripped it off. It's probably a sound thing as holden have to keep the grannies happy and every db quieter helps.
