    Default well try it again hey....gearbox probs


    already posted but got erased so ill cut a long story short.
    driving today in vs auto,gearbox crapped itself and now has no 3rd or 4th gear..
    is it cheaper to buy a reco'd box or have mine fixed?

    alot of good transmission places have reco commodore autos ready to go or just an inspected one thats been cleaned and tested which are fine too, remembering its all in how u drive! But that did happen to me and I'd say that u have burned out the 3rd and 4th clutch packs which means a rebuild anyway soooo the choice is yours my friend.

    Have you checked for error codes mate.

    Costs: a reco exchange or reco your box will cost the same - about $2000 done properly with a warranty. To just fix the particular problem you have may cost ???? but you'd be crazy to not go the full hog. You can get 2nd hand ones for $400 up but you instal.
    Maybe the codes check as suggested by Peter will show what is wrong with the box.
