    Default Fuel Gauge Question.

    Hey guys,

Since I got my VR the fuel gauge has always been either sticky or slow getting to the line where it should be. I recently upgraded to a level 3 cluster thanks to 88greenVN and noticed the fuel gauge does it on this one too.

Do you think its a coincidence that both clusters had dry solder joints or should I be looking for something else?

Could be the cluster, but I think it will be the sender unit in the fuel tank.
Mine is the same (takes it time), which I think is normal for its age..

Yeah I have replaced the cluster though and I think (well i hope) itd be pretty rare that 2 in a row would be dodgy clusters. This one is a level 3 cluster in good condition. How much does it cost to replace the sender unit?

    What goes wrong with them?

Every VR-VS Fuel Gauge i have seen always takes its sweet time to get to the right point lol. That model did do that as some people say lol. Even when my folks got a brand new VS, It was the same. Love the VX, instant

I'm starting to think its not the fuel sender actually as becuase its a level 3 cluster I have distance to empty etc.. and all that works.. and if the sender was stuffed surely that wouldn't work? Or it could still be a part of the sender that isn't working for the actual gauge reading.. so replacing it is still an option.

88greenVN is planning on mucking around with a couple of clusters to see if he can find any other solutions to fixing it apart from soldering up the voltage regulator as even after that some clusters still don't work.

If any one has any ideas let me know and i'll either try it out in my cluster to see if I can get it working or i'll forward the ideas to Shane.

edals: rub it in mate, dads VY goes up heaps quick love it, lol.

It could always be the floats electrical wires thats stuffing up in the sender unit. Just a thought I had.
Ive got the same problem. Hate that it's slow too...
Sometimes it even goes to one point, 5 mins later it's gone up more. I dunno what to believe. Lol.

Yeah exactly the same, its just a matter of been stuffed to get the sender unit out.

I've gotta get my cruise control going as well, so I might try do the cruise control first and then start looking into the fuel sender perhaps.

    See what happens.
