    Default Cruise Control Stalk Wires

    Hey,

Basically the VR has 2 problems fuel gauge one which is been covered in another thread any my cruise control not working.

As far as I know it came from the factory with cruise control but the guys that sold the car to us (who were original owners) did tell us cruise control hadn't been working for a while.

I'm thinking of checking the brake switch tomorrow, but also testing out the cruise control stalk wires.

I've no idea on how to use a multimeter though, I have to test for continuity I think? But how do I do that?

    Thanks.

I have the same problem but I have ruled out the brake switch because mine got replaced not too long ago. It sometimes wouldnt make the tail lights go on.
So im guessing its the wires in the stalk.

Yeah mate, im planning on taking the stalk apart sometime this weak (maybe when the heat dies down a bit a bit first) and i'll let ya know how I go. How do you know if the brake switch isnt adjusted right for the cruise control?
Because whenever I put my foot down my brake lights go on so yeah

Just gotta try see if anywhere here can give me tips on how to test the stalk wires with multimeter.

I would not be sure. I'd just pull it apart and see if there's a broken wire.
Heard the VR/VS's are netorious for wires breaking over the years. So that could be it.

Yeah but sometimes the breaks aren't actually visible, they can be inside the insulation which is when you need a multimeter so yeah.

Basically I need to know where to put the connectors from the multimeter to the car. One obviously at the start of the stalk wires but wheres the other end of the stalk wire finish?

Maybe try putting the negative on the car body?

Yeah i'll see what some other people reckon first cause i'll have to go borrow a mates multimeter for the day
Plus I thought for continuity both ends actually go to the wires, you dont ground anything?

So yeah, anyone know for sure on how I go about testing the wires in the cruise control stalk?

    Thanks

The cruise control utilises its own brake switch and the switch for the brake lights, if either are adjusted incorrectly the cruise wont work, so make sure you check both switches.

check the attached image for testing the CC switch... should help you determine if it's cactus or not.

hsvpunk: yeah the stalks seem pretty easy to replace so im not to fussed if its a broken stalk I just hope its nothing bad like the cruise module etc..

VSPantha: Thanks heaps for that mate, having tea at the moment but once I finish i'll read that again in more detail and test it in the next couple of days!
