Default Couple of Cruise Control Questions

    Hey guys,

Starting testing some things to try get my cruise control working again and have a few questions.

1- The CRS light - does this turn on at anytime or only after 40km/h as I know the ON light can only be activated after 40km/h

2- Im thinking of shorting out the CRS light to see if I can manually turn it on which should help me determine if its the stalk wires that are the trouble - does anyone have pictures of the connector where the 2 wires are I need to short out?

Right, so that comes on at any speed and you press set which turns the ON light on after 40km/h correct?

Alright well I don't get the "CRS" light turning on with the stalk so I am going to try jump the wires and see if the light goes on, if it does - I think im looking at a broken stalk, replace that and I should be right?

hako: im shocking with diagrams lol, do you know which one in particular control the CRS light?

EDIT: Apparantly it is meant to be a 4-pin connecter where the wires are I need to short, are the located on the stalk? if not where are they located does anyone know?

You have to take off the bottom half of the steering column shroud...a few phillip head screws from underneath and release the tilt/height adjuster lock and slide bottom half of shroud away from column and you should be able to follow the wiring from the stalk to the 4 pin connector.Make sure the bulb in the crs light is good and if you short momentarily the pink and grey wires with the key turned on to get the other idiot lights up the crs light should stay on until you turn the key off again.

    Update,

Just took it apart and its pretty damn obvious what wires are snapped 3 out of 4 LOL!

Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

So my question is would it worth cutting that red wire and getting a new stalk (ive been thinking about buying new stalks for a while anyway these ones are faded as hell). And then with the new stalk soldering all 4 up?

Or does that "loom" actually go somewhere else that be disconnected? The part that actually still has the red wire intact.

    Update:

Figured out the stalk, am going to take it to work and solder up those wires. As I was looking at my l3 (did a l2 to l3 conversion) cluster today though it seems it actually doesn't have the "CRS" light? It has the "ON" one thought.

Going to take the cluster apart later to double check but doesnt anyone know what I can do if it doesnt have it?

All models/levels should have the CRS light - the Owners Handbook which covers up to the Calais model mentions the CRS light.....so it must be there.

Yeah it was there, just my eyes playing up.

Soldered up the stalk wires today and tested with a multi meter, says all wires are good (tested for continuity between the circuit board and the connector on the stalk)

Gonna put it on the car tomorrow and see how I go, I think the on/off etc.. buttons might not have been making contact with the buttons in the circuit board as well so should be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

    Will let ya know.

    UPDATE

Fitted in without the covers over that stalk and gave it a test by pressing the buttons on the actual circuit board and the CRS light did work - so then I took the stalk out againt o put the plastic back over it, got it back in there and no CRS light.

Now its not even doing it if I press the button the circuit board so im guessing I may have broken one of my solders somewhere.

Does anyone know what whire in particular it is that turns the CRS light on?

The back of the cluster has it on it - should be the same on your L2 cluster. So just look at the pin outs on the green PCB thing and you should find it.

All soldered back up now, and the CRS light works!

And the on button works but goes off when you let your finger go (this is without the engine running) so hoping once I take it out for a driver it works
