Wow thats a lot. My 5L doesnt even use 250ml over 10000kms.

    Worn rings or valves maybe?

The time to be worried about oil consumption is when they blow blue smoke out the tailpipe when you hold the revs at 2500 for about 1 minute on a warm motor......or they leak oil. Otherwise anything up to a litre per 2000km would be OK with me.
    Thicker oil will reduce consumption.

GTX3 is 15w40 which is a thin oil - you should be using 20W50 which is what the manufacturer designed the engine to use - that's what the owners handbook says...... Castrol may say to use it but I'd rely on the people who made the car! Use of a thinner oil will increase oil consumption.
