Hi,
My VR wagon has always made a whirring noise everytime I turn the key but before starting the engine and then again after switching the engine off. The noise comes from the dash directly above / behind the glovebox. The noise sounds like something rotating and lasts about 4-5 seconds only. It's obviously mechanical and powered by the battery I reckon. The problem is recently the noise has changed and now sounds drier and more grinding in nature.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what this is I'd be happy to hear.
Cheers
that would be something to do with your idle or a/c (it happened to my sisters car)
The heater fan is behind there,I have seen them make funny noises when leaves ,twigs etc get caught in the fan/heater box.See if the heater fan makes a similar noise when its turned on. Also some models had a powered radio aerial. These can make a whirring sound, especially when they get broken, and it can sound like its coming from behind the dash area.
Thanks Brett jjj, you're a genius and I'm a muppet. The aerial is old and bent and until now I never new it was electric. I've just fiddled with it and now it goes up and down and the noise has changed to a nice and smooth hum until it gets to the last section of aerial when it clatters for a few seconds. I reckon the last part of the aerial must be slipping on whatever ratchet mechanism it uses. Buggered if I can see how to get into it to fix though. Not bothered about the noise now I know it's nothing serious. Thanks again.
Good to hear. Im not too sure, but I think the front guard has to come off to gain access to the aerial, someone else on here might have a better idea,Ive never had to remove or fix one before.Cheers.
The noise is caused by a Crunket . . they are a small micro species of Jamacan elephant, he is responsible for turning the Glove Box light on and off when you open it.
I believe that most fridges have Crunkets too, English ones though, ones that can adapt to colder conditions.![]()
Don`t leave bits of loose paper in the glove-box. Mate found some paper around the fan that he had in the glove-box.
