G'day all,
I have a VR ute, but I have a feeling the transmission is out of another car, as it has everything in a different place than what they are shown in the correct manual for my car. The main wiring connection in the manual is on the passenger side, but mine is on the drivers side, and the speed sensor looks totally different from the one in the manual. My first question is , How do I find out what transmission it is? There doesnt seem to be any serial numbers or anything that I can see.
My second problem is that the wiring connector is loose in the transmission. It is just flopping around and can spin freely in its socket, and is leaking profusely. Is it a big problem as far as how it is connected inside the box? Can it just be tightened somehow?, and if not, and is it easy to change this plug with the tranny in the car? or will I need to drop the tranny?Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and by the way, that was the reason for the problem in my earlier post, as the leak was causing the fluid level to drop significantly, I didnt find the leak until I got under to check the connection and found it loose as buggery!

If you are using a Haynes or Ellery manual to identify the transmission, be aware that both these manuals have errors. The Gregorys is more reliable although not without fault!
The I.D. of the trans should be on a paper tag glued to the bell-housing....there also is an I.D. stamped somewhere on the trans itself but not sure where. It should read 4HDD for a '94VR and 5HDD for a '95VR.
