i have a whiney noise coming from somewhere inside the car around the steering column , it only does it when the car is cold and goes away after its warmed up , ive posted this before and someone suggested it could be the `boot` or something ( i dont know what that is ) and to get under there and lubricate it as best as possible.
well i have some wd40 if that adequate now i just need too know what too look for, was wondering if anyone could post a pic if you can get too it with a camera or has any other suggestions.
(couldnt find the thread with the ffs search button so reposting)
edit: i should add that it only does it when im turning the wheel ofcourse.
have you got a enough power steering fluid, ive seen sometimes a whiny sound when the fluid also is old and needs to be replaced.
yeh fluid is fine, its a different noise than that makes.
there is bearings where the steering wheel rod goes through the firewall, give it a spray with wd40, down under the pedals.
ok ill go check that, hopefully i can see whats what under there![]()
Yeah ,these are known for making that noise,It sounds similar to a P/S pump that is cactus.Like The1 says, spray the area where the steering shaft goes through the firewall with wd,this bush or bearing makes a horrible noise(groaning sound) and is so easily fixed with wd 40.I spray it from the engine side of the steering shaft straight in, where the shaft goes into the firewall,You sort of have to get it to spray upwards into it, and this is usually enough to fix it.Also I've seen someone take their car to get this noise"fixed".The place where they went to changed the P/S pumps ,rack etc and the noise was still been there.A complete waste of money.
