Hello all im new here to these forums and am looking for any advise on changing the head gaskets on a VS V6 ecotec.
Ive got My VRS kit from the local Auto store and all the tools fluids and sealants i should image needed and have done many a head gasket change on straight sixes, V8's and fours so im guessing i wont have to much trouble.
What im after is any advise or tips and tricks on working on this motor that may help me on my way.
I am also after the details of any business that can machine the heads should they be warped. I live on the NSW Central coast so something up here or in the north side of sydney would be ideal.
Any help would be very much appreciated,
Cheers
Richie
The best advice I can give you is to go and buy a Gregorys workshop manual.Everything you want to do is step by step in it,you cant go wrong. Its also got the tensions that the Head bolts and others have to be tensioned up to.Well worth it.It will pay for itself the first time it gets you out of trouble when working on the car.
Other thing to consider is that there is no need to skim a head unless it is warped - and you can find out if it is warped by placing the head surface (cleaned) against a flat glass surface - a large glass sliding door is perfect - spray some WD40 on the head surface before you press it against the glass so you can see if it all makes contact with the flat glass. Any warpage will show up.
In theory, if you skim one head you must skim the other...but that's up to you.
I'm not one who likes spending money for no gain!
Thanks for the help much appreciated.
