Default Replacing sun sensor in a VR Calais

The "X" showed up in my climate control display today, but the aircon seemed to be working OK.

However, according to diagnostics [as per VS Commodore climate control diagnostic check the sun sensor has failed (the little "button" in the middle of the dash).

Does this mean the dash has to be removed, or is there a trick to getting the liddle f***er out???

    Thanks

The " little button " is only clipped into place and there is a connection for the wiring as well. I've used a little blade screwdriver to pop it out and unclip the wiring connector and replaced it that way.
    cheers...

Default is there a plug on the end of the sun sensor cable?

Hi - Took a while to get around to this as it started working OK again. But now it's very intermittent.

I pulled up the sun sensor OK ... wires were fairly tight but with a firmish pull got about 10cm out ... but still no sign of a plug ...

Just wondering how long the leads are from the sensor, and if there is a plug?

Last thing I want to do is break the wires and have to remove the dash!

nothing wrong with breaking wires, as long as you join and insulate them properly again. No dodgy twist and tape scenarios, poorly done solder joints, or those crappy clip connectors. Only use quality crimp connectors with the double sleeve with the correct ratchet crimpers, or proper quality solder joints are better.

Just a follow up in case anyone has same issue. Finally got to the sun sensor plug simply by taking out the two screws in the demister trim, and levering it up with a flat blade screw driver from the clip on the RHS. I could not pull the plug fully apart, but pushing it hard together seemed to do the trick. Must've been a bad connection in the plug. Problem hasn't recurred after few thousand kms, so it must be fixed!
