Default any tips on fitting a auto box?

whats the easiest way to get the new box in and lined up with the splines on the shaft.
i dont know if its normal but the torque converter is welded and bolted to the flywheel so lining it up that way is hard, weve nearly got the new gearbox in theres just about 10mm all round gap
