    Talking VS Fuel Pump

Can anyone tell me how much I should be paying to have my fuel pump replaced in VS Sedan Executive. I have been quoted $595 and think as a female I am being well and truly ripped off. Any help appreciated.

Get a written quoted as we don`t know if they are just doing the pump because most of the time the breather pipes need to be replaced aswell and they should replace the fuel filter so more money.
They have to drop the fuel tank down on the ground to fit the pump.
    I`m thinking $500 max.
If you got your quote from Holden then you are paying about $130 an hour.

Getting it fixed at a local repairer, but starting to think Holden may be cheaper because I can buy the kit alone for under $100

wtf..$595. thats just a plain ripoff. the tank does not need to be removed at all. any competent mechanic will have the pump and filter replaced in an hour. the pump will cost you $100 give or take a few dollars. i suggest you go to another workshop.

ive just replaced the fuel pump in my ute, that cost me $117 for a new pump and i fitted it myself.
With the utes you have to remove the tank, sedans and wagons you dont.

Shouldnt take more than an hour to be fitted.. that price is very expensive..

Again, thats a rip. New pump $100, tank stays in and about an hours labour, 2 at abolute max. It took me less than 2 hrs and im so not a mechanic.
$595 is just plain price gouging.

I had mine done recently and all up it cost me $240 (including the pump). Tell the mechanic to go and take a hike.

JUST DONE MINE AGAIN!!! had the tank out cause I broke the internal hose replaced the tank with the existing pump in 1 hour flat. couple of weeks later the pump went ( 95 bucks repco bosch) replaced in 25 mins with 55 F'N ltrs of fuel in it! you dont have to touch the tank, just remove 6, 7 mm bolts, the fuel will start gushing out( have your buckets ready) !!!!!!!!!!!!!! put on the pump, bit of a fiddle to get it in, fil up ya tank and off you go!
If you live in Bris I will do it for 100 bucks, you bring the pump.

You just need to jack the car up and if it's a solid axle let the diff drop down and there is enough room to get the pump and sender out of the tank without removing the tank. It's a good idea to syphon the tank out as much as you can so you don't spill fuel everywhere because it will run along the bottom of the tank and disolve the bitument paint that is on the tank under the metal tape where the mounting brackets go over. It burns too so use rubber gloves.
If there is any petrol smell when you fill the car consider removing the tank and replacing the breather lines and get a new bit of hose to connect to the filler neck while your at it, put vasoline on the inside of the new hoses as it makes them slide on really easy.
Replace the fuel filter as well and buy some fuel line and replace all the external fuel hoses that connect to the tank as well.
